About Harrington Brothers, Five Decades, One Family
The first thing to know about Harrington Brothers is that we are exactly what the name says: brothers running a surfacing company the way a family has to run one.
We started more than 50 years ago laying driveways around Chelmsford, Epping and Brentwood, first class driveway paving and road construction, done by hand, priced fairly, and finished properly because the customer lived three streets away and would tell everyone either way.
Half a century on, the postcodes have spread and the machines have got bigger, but the arrangement is the same.
Our name is on the vehicles outside your house.
Every driveway we lay, every road we patch, every car park we resurface carries it.
That focuses the mind in a way no mission statement ever could.
From Driveways to Council Roads
The growth happened the honest way.
Decades of residential work taught us the finish and care homeowners expect, proper sub-base preparation, tidy edging, a surface that still looks right ten years on.
Local authorities noticed, and the firm that started on front drives ended up trusted with the public highway.
Today we carry out contract work for local authorities as well as private drives. We laid driveways for years before the first council trusted us with a road, and the reputation was built job by job.
What We Do
We combine in depth industry knowledge, skilled long serving employees and the finest materials, and we cater for a wide variety of surfacing requirements.
For homeowners that means tarmac, resin bound, block paving and sandstone, and shingle driveways, plus patios and swimming pool surrounds.
We hold a wide selection of block paving and driveway paving stones, and there is a dedicated team to help you choose, we listen to your individual needs and tastes to get the right finish for your property, then tell you straight which material suits your budget and your ground conditions.
On the commercial side we handle roadways and paths, pothole and road repairs, car park surfacing, thermoplastic line marking, playground surfacing, concrete works and ongoing site maintenance.
Same crews, same material standards, same guarantee, whatever the scale.
The Day ITV This Morning Came Calling
In among fifty years of steady work there has been one brush with the telly.
We were asked to work alongside gardening expert David Domoney on ITV’s This Morning, helping with the preparation for Susan’s garden transformation.
It was a lovely job to be part of, and a rare bit of limelight for a firm that normally lets the work speak for itself.
If you want to see what that work looks like, our gallery is all real projects photographed straight from the tools, just our own jobs.
Accredited, Insured and Fully Guaranteed
Trust in this trade should be checkable, not taken on faith. We hold the accreditations that actually get audited:
- SafeContractor, independently assessed health and safety standards
- CHAS, Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme accredited
- Constructionline, pre qualified for public and private sector work
- RISQS, approved supplier to the rail network
- CIRAS, committed to confidential safety reporting
Every surface we lay is fully guaranteed, and we carry £10m public liability insurance. We schedule work to fit your timescales rather than ours, and if spreading the cost helps, there are finance options available, including 0% APR over 12 months, subject to status.
90% of Our Work Comes From Referrals
Here is the number we are proudest of: 90% of our work comes from recommendations and referrals.
Not adverts.
Not cold calls.
Neighbours seeing a finished driveway and knocking to ask who laid it.
Facilities managers passing our number along.
Councils inviting us back for the next scheme.
You only get a figure like that by doing unglamorous things consistently for a long time: turning up when you said you would, keeping the site tidy, giving honest advice even when it costs you the job, if an overlay won’t last, we’ll say so.
Rooted in Essex, trusted across four counties: Essex, London, Hertfordshire and Kent.
If you’d like to become the next recommendation, we’d be glad to quote.
